Collaboration with the Public Makers
The TUM Think Tank has been supporting the Public Makers Initiative from its inception. As the first initiative in Germany dedicated to Public Entrepreneurship, Public Makers aims to inspire young people to engage with the public sector, foster cross-generational collaboration, and develop innovative, user-centered solutions to societal challenges.
The partnership began with the Public Makers Bootcamp in October 2024, hosted at the TUM Think Tank. Over three days, interdisciplinary student teams worked on real challenges from ministries and public administration, guided by experts from politics, civil society, and startups. The program combined practical ideation sessions with inspiring lightning talks, fireside chats, and hands-on workshops, offering participants direct insights into the realities of public sector innovation. Since then, the initiative has expanded its activities with micro masterclasses, thematic workshops, and collaboration projects that promote entrepreneurial thinking within and for the public sector. The TUM Think Tank provides not only space but also methodological expertise, access to networks, and strategic guidance. Through this close collaboration, a vibrant community has emerged, one that makes Public Entrepreneurship visible in Germany and demonstrates how creativity, agility, and democratic values can jointly strengthen the public sector for the future.
