Mohamed Abouelela
Mohamed abouelela is a Friedrich Schiedel Fellow, where he explores the different dimensions of Greenwashing in the mobility industry. His project stems from the concerns about the misleading narratives regarding the sustainability of private transport services. He aims to investigate greenwashing within the transport sector, a phenomenon that undermines public trust and distorts travel behavior. The project unfolds in four stages: First, consolidating definitions and dimensions of greenwashing from the existing literature. Second, designing and implementing a survey to measure public awareness of greenwashing and its effects on mobility choices. Third, analyzing the data to uncover patterns across demographic groups and quantify the behavioral impact of misinformation. Finally, developing a practical framework to help mitigate greenwashing in transport communications and policies. Through this work, he aims to produce insights that are not only academically robust but also policy-relevant.
Mohamed is a civil and transportation engineer with over 19 years of experience, currently serving as a lecturer and head of the Transportation Data Analytics research group.
