Andreas Erhart
Andreas Erhart is a postdoctoral researcher in experimental astroparticle physics at the Technical University of Munich. His experimental work is conducted within the international NUCLEUS collaboration, where he develops highly sensitive cryogenic detectors for the study of fundamental properties and interactions of neutrinos. He studied physics at TUM and at École Polytechnique in France. Alongside his experimental research, Andreas works in collaboration with the Chair for Science and Technology Policy at the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, examining the material, environmental, and epistemic dimensions of contemporary particle physics from a Science and Technology Studies (STS) perspective.
Within the Friedrich Schiedel Fellowship, Andreas engages with this intersection directly: his project explores how knowledge production practices in particle physics change when detectors — the key technology of the field — move out of isolated laboratory settings into natural environments. Focusing on large-scale astroparticle research infrastructures, such as underground and underwater neutrino detectors, the project asks how experimentation is reshaped when the surrounding environment becomes part of the experimental apparatus.
