Carrie Lau

Carrie Lau is a final-year PhD candidate at the Chair of Human-Centered Technologies for Learning. Her dissertation focuses on designing and evaluating generative AI systems that support cultural and social inclusion, with particular attention to how emerging AI technologies shape participation and representation in cultural learning and social contexts.

In this fellowship, she examines how generative AI, particularly large language models, can represent and facilitate deliberation. Her work explores whether human–AI deliberation can foster more meaningful and inclusive discussions by helping participants articulate their perspectives, engage with diverse viewpoints, and reason collectively around complex social issues.

With a background in computer science and human–computer interaction, Carrie brings both technical and socio-cultural perspectives to the project. She is especially interested in designing AI systems that support meaningful dialogue, human agency, and collaborative decision-making.
