Quantum Social Lab Joins the New European Quantum Academy
The Quantum Social Lab brings the societal and political dimension to a major pan-European initiative for quantum education and workforce development.
In mid-May 2026, the European Quantum Academy (EQA) officially launched. The alliance unites more than 70 partner institutions, over 100 affiliated organizations and six Regional Quantum Academies, establishing for the first time a unified ecosystem for quantum education, from early school programs to doctoral research and lifelong professional development. Its goal is to overcome Europe's regional fragmentation in quantum education, expand equitable access to experimental and digital learning infrastructure, and build a sustainable, diverse, world-class quantum workforce for the continent's future.
Within this ecosystem, the Quantum Social Lab (QSL) brings in their interdisciplinary and governance expertise taking part in ensuring that technological excellence doesn't develop in isolation from political and societal responsibility.
Policymaking for the Quantum Age
A key focus lies in upskilling and reskilling policymakers. Through various initiatives, the QSL will contribute to upskilling and reskilling policymakers and also help build connections between quantum policy initiatives across Europe. These efforts aim to support policymakers in understanding quantum technologies and their implications for society.
Ecosystem Monitoring and Growth
Beyond this, the Lab contributes to EQA-wide job market analysis and educational ecosystem monitoring, helping identify emerging skills and training gaps.
Digital Infrastructure for Europe's Quantum Community
Finally, the QSL will also contribute to the EQA online platform for training resources, mobility coordination, PhD tracking and community networking.
"The quantum transition won't wait for a new generation to graduate. We need to equip the professionals who are already in the room - the policymakers, regulators, and decision-makers who will govern this technology long before it's fully understood."
Fabienne Marco, Head of Quantum Social Lab.
We are happy to contribute to such an important project over the next few years. If you have any further questions regarding the QSL’s involvement in the European Quantum Skills Academy please contact Sanhit Mehta (sanhit.mehta@tum.de)
