Vellah Kigwiru Honored for Excellence in Digital Competition Law
Vellah Kigwiru, Friedrich Schiedel Fellow at the TUM Think Tank, has received the "Excellence in Digital Competition Law Scholarship and Publications Award" from the African Centre for Law and Public Interest Technology
The award recognizes her outstanding contribution to the advancement of digital competition law in Africa through her academic publications, policy research, and thought leadership.
Dr. Kigwiru is a Friedrich Schiedel Fellow for Technology in Society at the TUM Think Tank. The fellowship supports researchers working at the intersection of technology, and society, helping them to translate academic findings into formats that reach practitioners, policymakers, and the wider public.
"If society is to benefit from the academic work we do, we must be able to reach the practitioners and everyone affected by the research we undertake and make them understand the legal concepts and the practical implications of our work."
Among the publications recognized by the award is her paper "Practitioner's Guide on Designation of Core Platform Services: Insights from the EU DMA for the AfCFTA and COMESA Competition Regimes," published by the TUM Think Tank. The brief offers guidance to African competition authorities on the designation of core platform services, drawing on the EU's Digital Markets Act as well as the AfCFTA and COMESA competition regimes.
