Join the Foresight Clinic

12. Jun 2026

The Foresight Clinic is looking for students who want to work on questions that matter — and who aren't afraid to dive into the unknown.

What the clinic is

The Foresight Clinic is a student-run practice at the TUM Think Tank. We partner with civic organisations, public agencies and mission-driven institutions on foresight questions they cannot answer alone — questions too long-horizon for the quarterly review, too complex for a quick brief. We produce work of real consequence: scenario sets, strategic narratives, decision models, workshop designs.

What you will do

You will join a small, curated cohort working on concrete projects with real partner organisations. Projects vary in format — some run across a semester, others are structured as intensive sprints, others might be a few workshops — and you can apply for the one that best fits your background and the time you can commit.

Alongside the project work, you will take part in workshops, webinars and guided readings that build your foresight toolkit as you go. You will work directly with your partner organisation — with the people who actually own the question - and our team at the TUM Think Tank. This is learning by doing, structured rather than improvised, and the output is something the partner can actually use.

What you will get

  • Mentorship from Nicklas Berild Lundblad and Nadine Schön, Fellows of Practice at the TUM Think Tank, and from the wider team.
  • Fluency in a set of foresight methods and tool-building that most professionals never encounter.
  • Access to a network of partner organisations and TUM Think Tank ecosystem and a platform to present and publish your work.
  • A certificate on completion in the emerging field of Strategic Foresight, a discipline that is gaining immense relevance across various professional sectors.

And something harder to quantify: experience working on genuinely open questions, alongside a cohort of other curious people from across disciplines and cultures who take the long view seriously.

Who we are looking for

We are open to all TUM students, regardless of programme or year. Foresight is irreducibly interdisciplinary — we need people who think differently from each other, and we aim to bring together students from management of technology, computer science, political science, philosophy, and beyond.

We aim for a cohort of around 20-25 students, selected on the basis of a short application and fit to the incoming projects. What we look for is curiosity, a willingness to engage with complexity, and enough time to commit to the work.

On that last point: we’ll ask you to be realistic about your availability. We’ll respect your boundaries and we trust you to stick to them.

You want to become a Member?

The students who join now are not joining something established — they are shaping it. And if that sounds more like an opportunity than a hurdle to you, we want to hear from you. To join, apply here by 25/06/2026:
