Santhanakrishnan Narayanan
Santhanakrishnan Narayanan is a senior mobility scientist and lecturer with over seven years of experience in the transportation field. He has played a key role in several European research projects, including Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe initiatives such as MOMENTUM, PHOEBE and MI-TRAP. His work lies at the intersection of transport systems, data science and artificial intelligence, combining traditional transport modelling with advanced data-driven methods, including graph neural networks and transformer-based approaches for complex urban systems. With more than 30 scientific publications, his research has received international recognition, including a Best Paper Award from the Transportation Research Board (TRB). Through his work, he aims to contribute to more equitable, efficient and sustainable transport systems.
Through the Friedrich Schiedel Fellowship, his project FAIR-NET aims to identify structurally disadvantaged and vulnerable areas in European metropolitan regions. Transport systems shape access to opportunities, yet inequalities in network design can lead to uneven access, higher travel burdens and increased vulnerability, particularly for disadvantaged communities. By integrating open-source data and AI, FAIR-NET provides evidence-based insights to support fairer, more resilient and inclusive transport planning and governance.
