Jawid Ahmad Baktash ist Informatiker mit Spezialisierung auf Künstliche Intelligenz, Cloud Computing und formale Methoden in verteilten Systemen. Seine Forschung an der Technischen Universität München befasst sich mit den Auswirkungen von E-Government-Systemen auf Transparenz und Korruption.

Zuvor war er Associate Professor für Software Engineering an der Universität Kabul, wo er zur Lehrplanentwicklung und zur digitalen Transformation im Hochschulwesen beitrug. Zudem hatte er leitende Positionen in der Politik inne, unter anderem als Akademischer und Technischer Berater des afghanischen Ministeriums für Hochschulbildung sowie als Generaldirektor für Forschung, Innovation und Wissenschaft im Ministerium für Kommunikation und Informationstechnologie Afghanistans.

Er promovierte an der University of the Ryukyus (Japan) im Bereich Ingenieurwissenschaften und besitzt einen Masterabschluss der South Asian University (Indien) sowie einen Bachelorabschluss der Universität Kabul.
