Prof. Theocharis erforscht politisches Verhalten, insbesondere den Einfluss digitaler Medien auf politische Partizipation, Kommunikation, Governance und unzivilen Austausch in Online-Räumen. Anhand von Umfragen, Experimenten und computergestützten Methoden untersucht er, wie soziale Medien die politische Informationslandschaft verändern: Sie können Nutzer\*innen durch neue Beteiligungsformen stärken, zugleich aber auch demobilisieren, marginalisieren und Polarisierung fördern.

Keynotes, panel discussions, mini-workshops, and networking breaks brought together diverse stakeholders from academia, civil society, industry, and government for the third edition of the Facilitating Constructive Dialogue Workshop. Together, we explored the latest research on harmful online content and brainstormed actionable strategies to address these pressing challenges.

    Global Survey shows Rejection of Unrestricted Freedom of Expression

    Most people support restricting harmful content on social media, even in countries leaning toward unrestricted free speech. However, many believe online intolerance and hatred are unavoidable. A global survey by the Content Moderation Lab at the TUM Think Tank and the University of Oxford reveals varying attitudes across ten countries.

Joint Effort Against Toxic Online Speech

Bringing together stakeholders from academia, civil society, the public sector, and industry, the third edition of the Facilitating Constructive Dialogue Workshop will focus on tackling issues related to hate speech and mis- and disinformation online. Over the course of a two-day event, we will delve into strategies, tactics, and tools that democratic societies can use to address and combat toxic online speech.
